The success of your product is only as good as the team behind it. But it's not just about having a group of people with great skill sets; it's about having a group of people who work well together. This isn't always the easiest thing to accomplish. In fact, it can be quite difficult to build a team that is cohesive, especially if you're starting from scratch. When the focus is on individual skill sets, it can be easy to forget about the importance of team dynamics and how they can affect the outcome of your product.

What causes a team to be non-cohesive?

A team can start out as non-cohesive, or it can become non-cohesive over the course of a project. When this happens, it signals that there are underlying issues that need to be addressed. Things might feel chaotic, there might be a lack of trust, with people being afraid to take risks, leading to stagnation, as well as costly mistakes.

There are a number of reasons why this might happen. It could be that the team members are not a good fit for the project, they are clashing with different working styles and personalities. It may be that they are not being given the proper support or resources, or it could also be due to a lack of communication,. Whatever the reason, it's important to identify the problem and take steps to fix it.

How can you tell if your team is non-cohesive?

There are a few signs that can indicate that your team is non-cohesive. One of the most obvious signs is a lack of communication. Take a look at how people interact with each other. Do they communicate openly and freely? Or do they tend to withhold information? Do they collaborate, or do they work independently?

Another indicator is the level of trust within the team. Do people feel like they can trust each other? Or do they feel like they need to second-guess everything? If team members are afraid to take risks, it's going to be difficult to move forward. And finally, if there is a clear lack of focus, or if people seem to be working against each other, it's a sign that the team is not cohesive.

If you have ever worked on a project with a non-cohesive team, you know that it can be a frustrating experience. When people are not working together effectively, it can lead to a lot of wasted time and effort, as well as unnecessary stress.

It can also be costly. When team members are not communicating effectively, it can lead to missed deadlines and errors. And when people are afraid to take risks, it can lead to stagnation.

How can you create and maintain a more cohesive team?

If you have a team that is struggling to work well together, it's important to take steps to fix the problem. First, you need to identify the underlying issue. It may be that the team members haven’t had enough opportunities to get to know each other. Or it could be that they need more training. Once you've identified the issue, you can take steps to fix it.

This might involve bringing in new team members who are a better fit for the project, but often simply training team members on how to communicate effectively, prioritising workshop facilitation or  including team building exercises can help the team through their project challenges.

You need to make sure that everyone is on the same page. This means having clear goals and objectives, as well as a shared vision for the project. It's also important to make sure that everyone understands their role and how it fits into the bigger picture.

You might need to focus on building trust. This means creating an environment where people feel safe to take risks and experiment. It also means being transparent and honest with each other.

Finally, you need to encourage collaboration. This means creating opportunities for people to work together and share ideas. It also means being open to feedback and criticism.

The nuom advantage

If you are embarking on a new project, having a ready-made product team for hire, who are already accustomed to working together, and can slot into your established team, might seem like a dream that is too good to be true. But at nuom, this is exactly what we offer.

Our teams are hand-picked for each project, based on their skills and experience. But more importantly, they are selected for their ability to work together effectively. This means that you can focus on your project, safe in the knowledge that you have an embedded resource who is ready to hit the ground running.

As a company, we've been at it for over a decade, and all our team members are experts in their field, with a wealth of experience in the pharmatech industry. But more importantly, they're a team who know how to work together effectively.

Our working processes and workshops are designed to help teams through their challenges, and to ensure that they stay on track. We prioritise involving all stakeholders in these workshops, so that everyone is on the same page and knows what needs to be done. This helps to avoid mistakes, and ensures that the team is working together effectively, ultimately saving time and money.
