Pausetrack Menopause tracking app
Empowering women to visually track their menopause symptoms and interventions, and do more with their data.
Dr. Claire Mann previously used nuom to design the prototype of Pausetrack - the personalised health tracking app that allows women to monitor the symptoms of menopause.
A successful launch of an MVP led to investor funding that allowed her to take the next step - to create an enhanced new version based on user feedback that would offer new and empowering features.
As a trusted partner, nuom was asked to provide insight on user feedback, design a suite of new features, offer user experience solutions, and provide the best options for development.
I was really happy with the work that nuom had previously done, so I really wanted to work with them again.

nuom worked as a consultancy interface with the client, to consider user needs, and look at how those needs could be met in different ways.
The initial collaborative design sprint was explored further to consider the representation of user data in new and meaningful ways. Followed by how feature requirements could be applied in design and functionality terms, to offer the best user experience and utility for users.
The mobile development team then improved the code base using the latest MVVM architecture, and added the most appropriate functionalities from Flutter, avoiding the need to build components from scratch, and allowing for rapid development of Version 2.
Indeed the client originally thought the new version would require much more work, but the development team were able to show that existing functionalities could be used.
Flutter fully enabled the new feature set, while also giving limitless design control, allowing the team to control every pixel on every screen.
The development work then used a combination of smart UI changes, with some complex logic (for tracking etc.) to improve user experience.
An example of the enhancements made is that V1 originally had a single review screen, but V2 created three different tabs. This now allows users to switch between the latest items tracked, and make comparisons between symptoms, periods, and interventions over any chosen time period.
Another key upgrade was to the track screen, to allow the tracking of periods and interventions, with linear tracking applied to the calendar for clearer visualisation. And a review section was added to help users analyse their interventions.
I love the design sprint approach. nuom helped me to understand my users, and how we can visualise their data in better ways. The solutions proposed were brilliant!

The design sprint and consultancy work helped to identify the most meaningful and actionable ways to present data to users.
While new user-centred features and functionality were then added at speed, to create a comprehensively enhanced version with a seamless and satisfying user experience.
Using Flutter allowed the client to be fully part of the journey, and to fully understand all options available in a collaborative and quick process.
Flutter provided libraries of functionality to work with that avoided the need to build complex code or build from scratch, and allowed instant access to the App Store and Google Play.
The new version was launched on International Women’s Day, and has received hugely positive feedback from users, as well as a significant increase in user numbers.
I would recommend using Flutter to anyone, especially within health. From a back-end perspective it offers libraries of functionalities that allow you to create whatever you want quickly, without building from scratch. As a CEO that saved me time and money, which was an absolute win.
